Michael has worked at the CDE since 1996 in various roles – clinical, education, management, research and in media and publishing. Michael currently serves the CDE as Head of the CDE Academy, which exists to create and facilitate life-changing continuing education experiences for all health professionals working with the wider ‘diabetes team’, as well as for people who live with chronic conditions like diabetes mellitus.
Michael’s work passions are person-centred diabetes care, preventative health care, reflective practice, health care education, mentoring and coaching, change management and written and visual communication.
Michael also has Recognised Teacher Status with the University of South Wales, Wales. He has worked with their Diploma MSc division since 2010 as a Tutor for their Postgraduate Diploma, Supervisor for their MSc Degree in Diabetes and a Content Editor. Michael regards it as a great privilege to accompany a diverse array of international students on the life-changing journey that a PGDip or MSc takes them.
Michael believes in using any talents he has to fulfil his life purpose – this has resulted in meaningful and significant contributions to the field of diabetes care. Michael feels blessed with a wonderful wife (also a diabetes educator) and two amazing children. His interest and passions exceed the time available and include God, music, several competitive and martial art sports, photography, gardening, nature and farming.
